Security Guards can be unarmed or armed. We suggest that you study your states requirements for each of these categories to familiarize yourself of their requirements.
- Stationary – A stationary guard is one who is designated a specific area and has the duty to guard that area until relieved. Stationary guards are those which are usually assigned at entrances and exits. Stationary guards sometimes have to conduct inspection on people who are passing their posts. Basically, they are the first line of security presence at a client’s property.
- Patrol – A patrol guard, unlike a stationary guard, is mobile. They cover a bigger area of responsibility and that is why they have to move around. Patrol guards usually roam on foot or by vehicle.
- Plain Clothes – Of course, there are plain clothes security officers. The plain clothes guard is one that does not wear a uniform. His duty is to stay hidden and make it appear that he is just an ordinary civilian. Plain clothes guards are usually deployed at special events especially if those events are attended by politicians, celebrities, and VIP’s.
- Front Desk Security – The front desk security guard can be much like the stationary guard mentioned above. However, many front desk security personnel also take on additional responsibilities for their client’s site. These extra duties may include answer the client’s telephones, greeting customers, receiving client and resident packages. Many of the front desk security duties can also be very similar to a front desk concierge.
