WHERE TO STAND
● Position yourself in the center of an intersection or at the best vantage point to observe traffic flow, keeping in mind your personal safety.
WEAR A SAFETY VEST
● Wear a safety vest and the standard issue police ball cap or helmet WHO CAN DIRECT TRAFFIC?
- ● It is recommended that only security officers who have been trained in traffic control be assigned to direct traffic in an intersections and then only when authorized by law enforcement.
- ● DO NOT USE MANUAL CONTROL when an existing automatic control device will alleviate the problem.
DO NOT GIVE ORDERS OR DIRECTION VOCALLY to a motorist or pedestrian, except in an emergency. Use simple, clear hand signals, emphasized by the use of the whistle.
USE CURRENTLY APPROVED traffic direction and control methods for standardization.
● Stand facing one line of stopped traffic with your side toward moving traffic
NEVER TURN OFF ANY MECHANICAL SIGNAL
● Security officers shall never become involved in manually controlling any State or municipality electronic traffic control devices.
