CA 16-Hour Security Training: Part 1

Overview

IMPORTANT: For California unarmed security guards, the timing requirement comes after they are approved and issued their guard card:

  • BSIS Rule: A newly registered guard must complete 16 hours of training within 30 days of receiving their guard registration card.
  • Then, the guard must complete the remaining 16 hours within 6 months of receiving the card.

Part 1 provides 16 hours of training, combining mandatory and elective subjects, to give you essential skills for starting your career as a professional security officer.

What You Will Learn

🔹 Public Relations (Mandatory)
Learn how to interact with the public in a professional and respectful way, build trust, and represent your company positively.

🔹 Observation & Documentation (Mandatory)
Develop the skills to observe situations accurately and record details clearly, ensuring your reports are reliable and professional.

🔹 Officer Safety (Elective)
Understand basic safety practices that keep you alert and protected while on duty, including situational awareness and personal precautions.

🔹 Trespass (Elective)
Gain knowledge of trespass laws, when action is necessary, and how to handle trespassers correctly and legally.

Requirement

This training must be completed within 30 days of registration, as required by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).
